She graduated from Abilene Cooper High School in 1993, where she was a member of the Student Council for three years and played golf for three years. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, beginning in 1993, and graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Journalism degree.
Ashley was named Personal Secretary to the President when George Bush was elected President of the United States in 2001. She worked for the George W. Bush Presidential Foundation as Director of Special Projects from 2005 to 2009, and then as media coordinator until 2010.
