On Sunday, the Braves acquired veteran infielder Robinson Canó from the Padres for financial considerations, then brought him up on Monday to play his old team in the first game of a three-game series against the Mets. Canó will wear the number 22 for Atlanta.

After being released by the Mets on May 8 and subsequently signed by the Padres, this is the 39-year-third old’s Major League team this season. Canó has only appeared in 24 Major League Baseball games in 2022. His last major league at-bat came on June 1 against the Cardinals in a pinch-hit appearance.

On June 2, the Padres optioned him to Triple-A El Paso. Canó has appeared in 21 games for the Chihuahuas and has found his stride.

Over 96 at-bats, he’s hitting.333/.375/.479 with three home runs and 20 RBIs.

The Braves are 1 1/2 games behind the Mets in the NL East heading into Monday’s matchup.

We wait to see how well he fares against them.
