Bramwell Tovey son: Who is Ben Tovey?
His death occurred a day after his 69th birthday, on Tuesday night.
According to the orchestra, he was diagnosed with a rare form of sarcoma in May 2019 and underwent surgery at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston in June 2021, which left him briefly cancer free.
However, Scan results confirmed a recurrence in January of this year, from which he was ultimately unable to recover.
Tovey, who is survived by a son and two daughters, was the music director of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for 18 years, where he led efforts to establish the VSO School of Music, which is housed in the Tovey Music Centre for Music, which was named after him when it opened in 2018.
His only son from his first marriage happens to be Ben, ex-guitarist for the now-defunct metal band Rise To Remain.
