The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has opened its Bono East Regional Office facility at Hansua in the Techiman Municipality.
Out of the six new regions established in 2019 to accommodate the growing demand for DVLA services, the spectacular regional office is the first to be built.
Plans to build regional offices for the next five regions, according to the DVLA, were well advanced.
The Techiman office has been located at the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) headquarters since 2004 till the Bono East Office complex was built.
The Minister of Transportation, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, stated last Thursday during the facility’s opening speech that the DVLA has incorporated several state-of-the-art technologies over the years to improve the process of granting driver licenses and car registration.
He said that the manual registration process’s bureaucratic delays had been lessened by the online Vehicle Registration System (VRS).
Because the system was completely integrated with both the National Identification Authority database and the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS), Mr. Asiamah said that it had also improved security and eradicated identity theft and false representation.
For the DVLA to provide effective services that adhere to international best standards, he pleaded with the public to accept the system.
According to the head of the DVLA, almost 10,000 cars were registered in the first three days of January alone following the recent introduction of the VRS.
He underlined that their more sophisticated technologies now ensured accuracy, speed, and a hassle-free experience for their customers.
Frank Davies, the DVLA’s board chairman, stated that the organization has seen a significant change in its operational plan recently and emphasized that the authority was granted to improve services by making them easier for customers to obtain.
While praising the authority for the changes they had made to the way their services were delivered at their offices around the nation, Kwasi Adu-Gyan, the Bono East Regional Minister, also gave them a directive to only licensed drivers who have received the necessary training or qualifications.
