Last week, the corpse of a missing Phoenix man was seen finally in a remote area of the desert near Interstate 17.

Anderson Benjamin’s automobile was set on fire at a motel along the Black Canyon Highway on Friday night for unknown reasons.

Per the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, Benjamin Anderson’s corpse was discovered along Table Mesa Road on New Year’s Eve.

The MCSO’s murder section is investigating Anderson’s disappearance and death, although it’s unclear whether a crime occurred. It is a common protocol for homicide investigators to investigate a person’s death until a cause of death is determined.

The corpse was only positively identified by investigators on Monday.

Anderson was supposed to meet his friend for lunch, according to deputies but canceled it suddenly. The worried friend later went to Anderson’s residence, where he saw cash, credit and debit cards, and a wet towel that appeared out of place.
