Sir Robert Charlton is a retired English football player who was born on October 11, 1937. He played primarily attacking, central, and left-wing positions. Bobby Charlton had three brothers: Jack, Gordon, and Tommy. Only Bobby and Jack, out of the four brothers, achieved success in the professional ranks as football players.

Jack Charlton won the World Cup with his brother. Afterwards, he guided Ireland to victory at Euro 1988. Bobby Charlton has discussed his close bond with his parents. His “hard-working man” father, he claimed, had instilled in him the values of “discipline, honesty, and hard work”. He continued by saying that his mother was a “loving and supportive” person who “always believed in him”.

Sir Bobby Charlton was the son of Robert “Bob” Charlton, born on May 24, 1909, and passed away on April 1982, and Elizabeth Ellen “Cissie” Charlton, born on November 11, 1912, and died on 25 March 1996.

Bob Charlton worked at Ashington Colliery as a coal miner. Despite his lack of enthusiasm for football, he supported his son in achieving his sporting objectives.

Cissie Charlton played football competitively and was involved in the local women’s league. She was a passionate supporter of Newcastle United, so she took her sons to see games.

Cissie had a big influence on Bobby’s football career. She encouraged him to practice his skills and offered him advice on how to improve his game.
