US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has issued a warning to China, stating that if they do not cease their supply of items to Russia for its assault on Ukraine, Washington will take action.

In an interview with the BBC in Beijing, Blinken emphasized that China’s actions were contributing to the greatest threat to European security since the Cold War.

While Blinken did not specify the measures the US would take, he acknowledged the progress made in certain areas.

He commended Beijing for its efforts in preventing the supply of the drug fentanyl to the US, which has been identified as a significant cause of the public health crisis in the country.

Despite the strained relations between the two nations over issues such as Taiwan, the South China Sea, and tech exports, Blinken highlighted the potential for cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

These include artificial intelligence and military communications, where China and the US can work together.

During his meeting with China’s President Xi Jinping, Blinken emphasized the need for Beijing to stop providing critical components to Russia that facilitate the production of munitions.

He highlighted the importance of China’s role in fostering stability in international relations, particularly in the ongoing confrontations in the Middle East and Europe.

The visit by Blinken marks a period of increased dialogue and diplomacy between the US and China, as they seek to navigate their complex relationship and move towards a more stable and cooperative future.

If China refuses to act, Blinken hinted at possible sanctions as a course of action, emphasizing the need for China to reconsider its support for Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.

Through constructive engagement and cooperation in key areas, Blinken believes that China and the US can develop a more positive and stable relationship, ultimately benefiting both nations and promoting global security.

The outcome of their discussions will be critical in shaping the future of US-China relations and broader international dynamics.
