The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, has highlighted the importance of the Black Queens’ upcoming international friendly against Japan as they gear up for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Upon their arrival in Kanazawa City, Japan, the Black Queens wasted no time and kicked off their training at the Seibu Ryokuchi Park on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. Following a light shake-up session to stretch their legs after the long journey, the team is scheduled to continue their training from Wednesday, July 10, through to Friday, July 12.

Asante Twum emphasized that the friendly match against Japan, a team heading to the Olympic Games, is a fantastic opportunity for the Black Queens to remain active and sharpen their skills in preparation for the rescheduled WAFCON, initially set for this year but postponed by CAF to next year.

With Japan showing interest in facing off against the Ghanaian team, Asante Twum expressed his delight at the opportunity. He mentioned that the Black Queens left for Japan on Sunday evening and have already had their first major training session. The match is scheduled for Saturday morning, Ghana time.

Highlighting the significance of the friendly, Asante Twum pointed out that the last time the Black Queens played was against Zambia almost six months ago. Therefore, it is crucial to keep the team engaged and in good form. Additionally, the coach has scouted some players born abroad, and this match presents a great opportunity to assess and test their skills.

The Black Queens are determined to make the most out of this friendly encounter as they aim to showcase their readiness and competitive spirit ahead of the upcoming WAFCON in 2025.
