William Alton Carter was an American farmer, businessman, brewer, and politician. He is a younger brother of the former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, he promoted Billy Beer and Peanut Lolita; and he was a candidate for mayor of Plains, Georgia.

He was born on March 29, 1937, and sadly died on September 25, 1988.

Billy Carter’s Parents

Billy Carter was the fourth and youngest child of his parents Lillian (mother) and James Earl Carter (father). James Earl Carter married Lillian Gordy in 1923. He was an insurance broker, farmer, fertilizer dealer, Baptist, and Democrat. A veteran of World War I, he served on the County Board of Education and was a state representative in his first term when he died at the age of 59. Whereas Lillian Gordy  was also known for her contributions to nursing in her home state of Georgia and as a Peace Corps volunteer in India as well as for writing two books during the Carter presidency.

Billy Carter’s Siblings

Billy Carter has three siblings, they are:

James Earl “Jimmy” Carter, Jr., was born on  October 1, 1924. He is a retired American politician who served as the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as a Georgia state senator from 1963 to 1967, and as the 76th governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975. He was born on October 1, 1924.

Gloria (Mrs. Walter G. Spann), was born on October 22, 1926, and sadly died on  March 5, 1990

Ruth (Mrs. Robert T. Stapleton), was born on August 7, 1929, and sadly died on  September 26, 1983.

Billy Carter’s wife and children

Billy Carter got married to Sybil Spires in 1955 and became the father of six children: Kim, Jana Kae, William “Buddy,” Marle, Mandy, and Earl. Billy ran the family business in Plains during most of the 1960s and 1970s. He enrolled in an alcohol rehabilitation program in 1979, and in the 1980s he lectured across the nation about his battles with alcoholism and later pancreatic cancer, which he was identified in 1987. He sadly died in 1988.
