Apparently in 2017, Turnbull was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

His family stated that he received “outstanding medical care” from the Royal Marsden and Ipswich Hospitals, St Elizabeth Hospice, and his general practitioner.

They added: “He was resolutely positive and was hugely buoyed by the support he received from friends, colleagues, and messages from people wishing him luck. It was a great comfort to Bill that so many more men are now testing earlier for this disease.

From 2001 to 2016, Turnbull hosted BBC Breakfast, as well as Songs of Praise and the quiz show Think Tank.

He most recently hosted a weekend show on Classic FM.
In October of last year, he announced that he would be taking a medical leave from his show.
