On Monday, President Joe Biden will hold a celebration of the new, bipartisan gun bill, which has already been eclipsed by yet another mass shooting.
According to a statement from the White House, Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will be present as Biden celebrates the historic achievement on the South Lawn.
Survivors and relatives of those killed in mass shootings at Columbine, Virginia Tech, Aurora, Tucson, Sandy Hook, Parkland, Santa Fe, Uvalde, Buffalo, and Highland Park will also be present.
On June 25, Jill Biden, the first lady, and the president formally signed the measure into law. It was the first significant federal gun safety legislation in thirty years.
The July 4 massacre in Highland Park, Illinois, where seven people died and 46 were injured, has already cast a shadow on the law intended to prevent gun violence with many skeptics now questioning the effectiveness of the law in preventing future shootings.
