Born on November 28, 1929, Berry Gordy III is an American former record executive, record producer, composer, film producer, and television producer better known by his stage name Berry Gordy Jr.
The Motown record label and its affiliates, which for decades was the highest-earning enterprise owned by Black Americans, were founded by him, and this is how most people remember him.

In his capacity as a songwriter, he created or co-created a number of songs, including “Reet Petite,” “Lonely Teardrops,” and “That’s Why” by Jackie Wilson, “Shop About” by The Miracles, and “Do You Love Me” by The Contours, all of which peaked at the top of the US R&B charts (Jackie Wilson).
He collaborated with the Corporation to write the smash songs “I Want You Back” and “ABC” for the Jackson 5.
He started the Miracles and signed artists including the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, the Temptations, the Four Tops, Gladys Knight & the Pips, and Stevie Wonder while working as a record producer. He was renowned for meticulously controlling his public persona, attire, demeanour, and act choreography.
