One of America’s best modern writers and feminists, Gloria Jean Watkins, popularly known by her pen name bell hooks, has joined her ancestors.
She kicked the bucket on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, aged 69.
Her niece Ebony Motley broke the news via Twitter on Wednesday, saying “The family of @bellhooks is sad to announce the passing of our sister, aunt, great aunt and great great aunt. The author, professor, critic and feminist made her transition early this am from her home, surrounded by family and friends.”

When is bell hooks’ funeral?
In a press statement, her family said they were ‘deeply saddened at the passing of our beloved sister’. It said further said ‘the family honored her request to transition at home with family and friends by her side.’
On her funeral and burial arrangements, her family said: ‘A celebration of life ceremony for our beloved sister, Gloria, will be announced.’
