The Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council has summoned Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II, the Ankobeahene of the Begoro Stool, for reportedly endorsing National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama ahead of the impending elections in December.

The summons follows a petition that Otweresohene/Odau, Okyeame Owusu, and Daasebre Ofosu Kwabi Ayebiahwe filed against him, alleging that Nana Owiredu Agyarko was involved in partisan politics.

The petitioners claim that Balfour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II’s political politics during the former President’s recent campaign trip to the Eastern Region have tarnished the reputation of the Begoro Stool.

The petition further stated that the endorsement was given by the Ankobeahene, who is said to have spoken for the Nananom and the Begoro people, at Mahama’s meeting with traditional leaders while on tour.

The statement further stated that the chief warned the people of Begoro to be watchful against the current government’s purported agenda of vote-rigging, saying that Nananom had called upon the gods by offering libations in opposition to the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for violating the eight maxims.

In addition to other things, the petitioners are requesting an order of destoolment as Ankobeahene of Begoro, a declaration nullifying the respondent’s conduct, a public apology to the petitioners and the people of Begoro, and punitive customary sanctions if found liable, according to Dan Marfo Ofori Attah, the Abuakwa Traditional State Secretary, who confirmed the summons to Citi News.

Rescheduled from February 12, 2024, to February 19, 2024, is the hearing on the subject.
