The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has raised concerns about the potential delay in releasing the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results if the government does not disburse the remaining funds on time.
John K. Kapi, the head of public affairs for WAEC, emphasized the impact of delayed payments on the timely release of examination results during an interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning.
He emphasized that delays in government payments could disrupt the release of results, affecting students, educational institutions, and the academic calendar. Kapi highlighted the importance of receiving the necessary funds before the marking and processing of results can begin.
Despite receiving 60 to 65 percent of the required funds, Kapi stated that negotiations are ongoing with the government to secure the remaining amount. He assured that WAEC is working to ensure the timely release of results by securing the outstanding funds.
Kapi’s concerns come amidst reports of the government’s slow disbursement of funds for the BECE examination. He urged for a more proactive and structured approach to funding WAEC to prevent such delays in the future.
Kapi stressed the importance of adequate and timely funding for WAEC to enhance the quality and reliability of the examination process. He called for a consistent funding mechanism to support the operations of the council effectively.
