A group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters, known as the Patriotic Movement for Bawumia, has come out to advise the party’s leader, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to choose his running mate for the December 2024 elections based on his own vision and judgement.

During a press conference in Kumasi, the group expressed their concerns about the pressure from various party factions lobbying for their preferred candidates to be chosen as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate. They criticized the tactics being used, such as press conferences, delegations, petitions, and threatening remarks in the media, to coerce Dr. Bawumia into selecting a certain candidate.

The group’s convener, James Fiifi Aggrey Eshun, emphasized the importance of Dr. Bawumia being able to freely select his running mate without external influence. He highlighted the historical repercussions of yielding to internal pressures and urged Dr. Bawumia to show leadership in this decision-making process.

Furthermore, the group warned potential running mate candidates against sponsoring activities that aim to force Dr. Bawumia’s hand in selecting them. They emphasized that selecting a running mate is the prerogative of the flagbearer and should not be done under duress.

In conclusion, the Patriotic Movement for Bawumia appealed to Dr. Bawumia to ignore any endorsements or pressure from factions within the party and to choose a running mate who aligns with his vision for the party and the country. They stressed the importance of maintaining the party’s integrity and urged Dr. Bawumia to make his decision independently and without external influence.
