Bawumia is having to pay for the sins of Akufo-Addo’s regime – Bentil

Attorney and Senior Vice President of IMANI-Africa, Kofi Bentil, claims that because of his affiliation with President Akufo-Addo, Ghanaians should not discount Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s vision for the country.

Giving the NPP’s 2024 flagbearer a fair hearing is necessary because, in accordance with Mr. Bentil, the vice president’s constitutional authority is that of an assistant to the president.

The well-known attorney claimed that Vice President Bawumia’s largest burden is the current Akufo-Addo-led administration in remarks made on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday.

“The sins of the father must not be passed on to the son,” he insists. I would have voted them out if it was a vote for their second term, but according to the constitution’s design, this government and all of its members are going away, and Vice President Bawumia’s biggest burden is this government.

“He is a part of this government and must pay for its transgressions. However, this government is not President Akufo-Addo’s, and one of my wishes—which I have managed to convey to Vice President Bawumia—is that I do not wish to see important members of this government on his team. I’ll chastise him if he does that.

Mr. Bentil asserted to host Samson Lardy Anyenini that President Akufo-Addo, not his vice, should be held accountable for the current economic crisis.

He clarified that the Vice President had frequently voiced his disapproval of certain government policies being put into effect.

“I believe you can understand exactly where this person is headed if you look at his previous words as well as his actions and subsequent utterances. Let me use e-levy as an example. It is evident from his prior statements that he was opposed to it, but his boss ultimately decided to proceed in this manner.

“The Finance Minister received instructions, and when people question why he chose not to step down, remember that you have no authority to announce your resignation when the person with the authority to make decisions makes the choice and you have no right to do otherwise. Your task has been completed. Nonetheless, he persisted there and battled for the GH₵100 exemption. It is the driver-mate relationship that seems to be lost on people.
