Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has made a significant pledge to build a university for the Savannah Region if elected.
This promise sets him apart from his counterpart in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Former President John Dramani Mahama, who does not have a similar plan for the region, which also happens to be his home region.
The Director of Communications for the NPP, Mr. Richard Ahiagbah, emphasized the importance of this commitment by Dr. Bawumia and urged Ghanaians, particularly the people of Gonjaland, to support him in the upcoming general elections. Mr. Ahiagbah highlighted the establishment of the Savannah Region by Dr. Bawumia, a feat that was not achieved by H.E John Mahama during his presidency.
Dr. Bawumia kicked off his campaign tour of the Savannah Region on Wednesday, May 15, following the conclusion of his tour of the North East Region on Monday, May 13. During an interactive meeting with the North East Regional House of Chiefs in Nalerigu, Dr. Bawumia was commended for his decency and respectful conduct during the campaign.
The President of the North East Regional House of Chiefs, Ndugna Nayiri Naa Bohugu Abdulai Sheriga, praised Dr. Bawumia for his civility and urged him to continue in the same manner throughout the campaign. This endorsement underscores the positive impact that Dr. Bawumia’s promises and behavior are having on key stakeholders in the regions he visits.
The commitment to build a university for the Savannah Region demonstrates Dr. Bawumia’s dedication to promoting education and development in underserved areas of the country. As the campaign period progresses, Ghanaians will be watching closely to see how both candidates address the needs and aspirations of different regions across the country.
