Wesley Girls Senior High School in the Central Region now has a digital repository that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia personally funded.
He claims that the Digital Repository was created in honor of his mother, a former pupil of the institution.
The facility “will prove to be a worthy asset, as it will help past students, current students, and staff retrieve important records of the school digitally and with ease,” according to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
His post about the Facility is below:
This morning in Cape Coast, I commissioned a Digital Repository I funded, for Wesley Girls Senior High School, in memory of my late mother, Hajia Mariama Bawumia, a former student.
For an academic institution the size of Wesley Girls’ High School, and with its rich 187-year history, the repository will prove to be a worthy asset, as it will help past students, current students, and staff retrieve important records of the school digitally and with ease.
Following the passing of my mother, in 2021, I was touched by the visit of her class mates from the 1960-year group, to commiserate with me and the family. I was privileged to be approached by the Old Girls’ Association on behalf of the school on the 1st Anniversary of her passing, to assist with the provision of a digital repository for the school, which I happily supported in honor of my late mother.
As a result of the project, all student records have been digitized and can be easily accessed at the touch of a button.
I was honored by the presence of three of my mother’s classmates at today’s ceremony (Mrs. Nancy Thompson, Dr. Mrs. Cecelia Bentsi, and Dr. Mrs. Matilda Papoe). May God bless them.
I am hopeful that all other educational institutions that are yet to do so will follow suit and digitize their precious records.
