The Vice President of Ghana, Mahamudu Bawumia turns 60 and he marked the birthday celebration in an orphanage home in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
Bawumia, who clocked 60 years on Saturday, October 7, 2023, decided to mark his special day in Kumasi, the stronghold of his political party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The NPP presidential aspirant and his wife, Samira, had early morning prayer sessions in Kumasi before visiting the Kumasi Children’s Home to celebrate his birthday with the children in need.
From early morning prayer sessions to spending quality time with children of the Kumasi Children's Home, I say thus far the Lord has brought me.

“From early morning prayer sessions to spending quality time with children of the Kumasi Children’s Home, I say thus far the Lord has brought me.
“I am grateful to you all for celebrating my 60th birthday with me,” he tweeted.
When the video of him and Samira arriving at the Kumasi Children’s Home hit social media, some Ghanaians branded the celebration as a political ploy and a strategy to win votes in the Ashanti region.
Bawumia is contesting as the flagbearer in the upcoming NPP presidential primaries scheduled for November 4, 2024. His biggest opponent is Kennedy Agyapong, following Alan Kyerematen’s exit from the party.
“So now de3 everything is Kumasi. You want Kumasi people’s attention but 3nfa,” an Instagram user said.
More similar comments criticising the celebration followed.
“Politics ankasa 3y3 antics ne tactics. Sake of Alan he go start Dey do everything for Kumasi,” one user said.
“As if his hometown they are all adults (no children dey der),” a user commented.
“It’s only my people in Ashanti that can be deceived because even if you put the party colour on a goat they say they will vote for it,” one said.
“Why not a children’s home in his region of birth. All these is to canvas for the Ashanti votes but still…… showdown Dey!”
“The children in your hometown are worse off and more hungry, yet you went to Kumasi just because of votes. By their behaviour, we shall know them.”
“You built Tamale interchange and airport you are in Kumasi celebrating your birthday. You think we are stupid?”
Another user added: “My own people (Kumasifo)) are the most shallow-minded people in Ghana…SMH.”
