Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, according to independent presidential candidate Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, cannot shirk responsibility for the country’s persistent economic problems.
Mr. Kyerematen contends that Dr. Bawumia is inextricably linked to the country’s suffering since he is a key player in cabinet decisions.
He refuted the idea that vice presidents have little ability to influence the direction of the nation in an interview with Citi TV.
He suggested that Dr. Bawumia has comparable prospects under President Akufo-Addo by drawing a comparison between Vice President John Dramani Mahama and the late former President John Evans Atta-Mills’ participation in government processes.
Despite his prior involvement in the economic collapse, Kyerematen acknowledged his part in the mismanagement of the economy when serving as Trade Minister until his departure in 2023. However, he also highlighted his potential as a catalyst for reform.
As the creator and leader of the Movement for Change, Kyerematen emphasized that ministers were not the only ones who guided governments—executive authority at the highest level was also involved, thus it was difficult for Dr. Bawumia to completely escape responsibility.
Mr. Kyerematen emphasized President Akufo-Addo’s delegating of duties to Dr. Bawumia and acknowledged the impact of vice presidents in government.
