WNBA star Brittney Griner has captured the hearts of sports fans, not only for her impressive skills on the court but also for her love story with wife Cherelle Griner.
The couple met while attending Baylor University in Texas, and their relationship blossomed into a beautiful marriage in 2019.
Cherelle Griner, formerly known as Cherelle Watson, is a highly accomplished individual in her own right. She studied political science and government, as well as family and child studies at Baylor University before pursuing a law degree from the North Carolina Central University of Law. In May 2022, Cherelle proudly shared her graduation as a Juris Doctor.
The Griners’ love story has not been without its challenges, including Brittney’s previous marriage to fellow WNBA player Glory Johnson. However, after Brittney proposed to Cherelle in 2018, the couple has been inseparable ever since. In a touching Instagram post, Brittney reminisced about the first time they met and expressed her deep love and admiration for her wife.
In April 2024, the Griners shared the exciting news of their upcoming addition to the family, with Cherelle expecting their first child together. This will be Brittney’s third child, as she shares twins with her ex-wife Glory Johnson. Despite past hardships, the Griners’ bond remains strong, as they look forward to welcoming their new bundle of joy.
Unfortunately, the couple faced a harrowing ordeal when Brittney was detained in Russia on drug smuggling charges. After months of uncertainty and fear, including a guilty plea and a lengthy prison sentence, Brittney was finally released in a prisoner swap in December 2022.
