Tommy Frensley, a Metro Nashville high school basketball coach has passed away. He was 83 and had suffered from Parkinson’s disease.
The Hillsboro High, basketball court was named in honor of former coach Tommy Frensley in 2007. Frensley spent 36 years as a boys head coach, 29 years at Hillsboro and 7 years at Donelson Christian Academy. He held a career record of 632-304.
Frensley was at Hillsboro from 1965-94 and won a total of 494 games, two region titles and nine district tiles. In 1972, 1974 and 1979 he led the Burros to the state tournament.
Frensley, played basketball at old Howard High and Belmont, he was The Tennessean’s Nashville Interscholastic League Coach of the Year in 1972. In 2013, he was part of the inaugural class inducted into the Hillsboro Sports Hall of Fame.
Joe Gaskins, who played at Hillsboro from 1975-78 said that there are so many lives that coach Frensley impacted.
