Irish actor Barry McGovern, born in 1948, has worked on theatre, screen, and television. He received his education at Dublin’s Castleknock College.
McGovern previously belonged to the Abbey Theatre Company and the RTÉ Players. He has worked in theater, film, radio, and television. He has also co-authored two musicals, written music for several events, and directed plays and operas. His award-winning one-man Beckett productions I’ll Go On and Watt, which the Gate Theatre staged at the Dublin Theatre Festival in 1985 and 2010, respectively, made him famous throughout the world. In 2014, McGovern revived “I’ll Go On” for a performance by the Center Theatre Group of Los Angeles at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City.
