Barry McGovern is an Irish actor who has been on stage, in cinema, and on television. He was born in 1948. His academic training took place at Castleknock College in Dublin. McGovern is a veteran of both the RTÉ Players and the Abbey Theatre Company, where he served as a member.
McGovern has worked in theater, cinema, radio, and television, as well as co-authored two musicals, written music for many shows, and directed plays and operas. In addition, he has created music for numerous programs. His one-man Beckett pieces I’ll Go On and Watt, both of which won awards and were performed by him at the Gate Theatre at the Dublin Theatre Festival in 1985 and 2010, respectively.
McGovern is recognized all over the world for these shows. [source: missing citation] In 2014, “I’ll Go On” was given a new lease on life by McGovern and presented by the Center Theatre Group of Los Angeles at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City.
