Hiplife legend Barima Sidney clarifies that Vice President Dr. Bawumia will not be compensating DJ Azonto for dancing to his song “Fa No Fom” at a campaign rally.
Recently, DJ Azonto and his management demanded $10 million from Dr. Bawumia for using the song without permission at a political event. However, Sidney explained that according to Ghana’s copyright laws, DJs do not receive compensation for their songs being played at public events like political rallies.
Sidney emphasized that playing a song and dancing to it at a political rally is different from using it for advertising purposes. If the song is used in an advert without consent, then the artist can seek compensation. But in this case, DJ Azonto’s demand for $10 million is not valid under Ghanaian copyright laws.
