Barbara Joan “Barbra” Streisand is an American singer, actor, and director who was born on April 24, 1942. She has had a fruitful career in the entertainment industry spanning more than six decades and is one of the select few performers to have received an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony (EGOT).

Streisand launched her career by performing in nightclubs and Broadway theaters at the beginning of the 1960s. She earned a record deal with Columbia Records after making guest appearances on television.

Her debut, The Barbra Streisand Album, which won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1963, was released. Throughout her career, she insisted on maintaining total artistic control while accepting lower income in exchange.
