After being halted or held virtually in 2020 and 2021, there is a lot of excitement for this year’s event.
The fall festivals signal the start of awards season and frequently reveal which films will contend for the Oscars.
The Swimmers, created by British playwright Jack Thorne, will officially kick off the festival on Thursday.
It tells the story of two Syrian sisters who escaped the nation by boat and were forced to push and drag their dinghy through the water for hours after the motor failed.
Other festival favourites include Knives Out sequel Glass Onion and The Lost King, a film about the finding of Richard III’s skeleton in a Leicester car park.
In other news, Steven Spielberg will screen his autobiographical picture The Fabelmans in Toronto for the first time, while Brendan Fraser will try to maintain his Oscar momentum with The Whale.
Olivia Colman will star in Empire of Light, a tribute to filmmaking directed by Sir Sam Mendes, while Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson will try to recreate their past chemistry in The Banshees of Inisherin.
Taylor Swift and Harry Styles are two of the most famous people attending TIFF this year.
