Former Intel India head Avtar Saini died at the age of 68. He held some patents related to microprocessor design. He was also a director for Intel’s South Asia division.

Avtar Saini passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, after he was hit by a speeding cab while cycling in Navi Mumbai’s Nerul area. The accident took place at around 5.50 am on Wednesday, when Saini, was riding a bicycle along with fellow cyclists on the Palm Beach Road, a police official said.

Avtar Saini holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from VJTI, Mumbai, and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota. At Intel, Avtar co-led the development of the Pentium processor and was responsible for the first phase of development of Intel’s 64-bit architecture – The Itanium Processor. He was best known for his leadership role in the design and development of the Pentium processor at Intel.
