Attorney-general opposes Ato Forson’s application for mistrial

The ongoing ambulance case involving the Minority Leader Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and the Attorney-General Godfred Dame has taken a new turn as the A-G has opposed the application for a mistrial filed by Dr Ato Forson.

According to the A-G, the application is not recognized in the laws of Ghana and lacks proper grounds for consideration.

In response to the A-G’s opposition, lawyers for Dr Ato Forson have filed a supplementary affidavit in support of the motion for mistrial, injunction, and/or stay of proceedings in the case. The filing follows allegations made by third accused Richard Jakpa against the Attorney-General, including a recorded telephone conversation between Mr. Jakpa and the A-G annexed to the affidavit.

Dr Ato Forson is seeking a declaration of mistrial in the interest of justice, alleging reprehensible and unlawful conduct by the Attorney-General aimed at securing his conviction. The application is set to be heard on Tuesday, 4th June, 2024.

If the mistrial is not ordered, Dr Ato Forson argues that public confidence in the administration of justice will be adversely affected, especially if allegations of misconduct by the Attorney-General are ignored. The case continues to draw attention and scrutiny as it unfolds.
