The attack on Hajia Shamima Yakubu, the Northern Regional Treasurer of the National Democratic Congress, by a regional party officer has been denounced by the party’s leadership.
The incident occurred at the party’s regional office at a regional executive meeting in Tamale on Saturday, January 13, 2024.
However, the party said that reports that said the event occurred at the meeting when the Regional Treasurer was attacked in front of some national executive party members were untrue.
The statement read, “The NDC takes a very serious view of the conduct of the party officer responsible for the assault, and measures would be taken to address the matter thoroughly at its next meeting of its Functional Executive Committee meeting to leave no doubt in everyone’s mind that the party does not approve of unlawful acts of assault and battery.”
The conference was called to discuss campaign strategy, not accounts, reconciliation, or related concerns, according to a statement signed by the party’s general secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, which denounced the attack.
The NDC wishes to underscore its commitment to ensuring that all of its members adhere to the well-established practices that have drawn many Ghanaians into our internal politics. These practices give us confidence that we could form the next administration.
