Ato Forson trial: Godfred Dame’s day of reckoning has come – Sammy Gyamfi

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has vowed to hold the Attorney General accountable for what they perceive as judicial misconduct. Sammy Gyamfi, the Communications Officer for the NDC, made this declaration during an interview on Joy FM’s Newsnight on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

Gyamfi emphasized that recent revelations by the third accused individual in the Cassiel Ato Forson trial support the NDC’s claim that Godfred Dame, the Attorney General, is intent on prosecuting the legislator without just cause.

“His day of accountability, his day of reckoning has come. His cup is full, God has exposed his evil works which he does under the cloak of his office as Attorney General. And it is time for him to face the music. And we are telling him, he is not above the law,” Gyamfi stated.

The latest development stems from Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ambulance purchase trial, alleging that the Attorney General had solicited his help to build a case against Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader and former Deputy Finance Minister.

“The A-G has on several occasions engaged me at odd hours to help him make a case against A1 and I have evidence for that… If he pushes me, I will open the Pandora’s box. I don’t understand why the A-G will accuse me of defending A1 when I’m here to defend myself,” Mr. Jakpa revealed in court.

The NDC has expressed worry over what they see as a deliberate campaign to prosecute Dr. Forson, who has been vocal in opposing government policies.

Despite the Attorney General’s denial of coercing accused persons in the matter, the NDC remains steadfast in their resolve to seek justice. Gyamfi reiterated their possession of compelling evidence proving that Godfred Dame has shown bias against the Minority Leader throughout the trial, with the ultimate goal of ensuring his imprisonment.

“If your hands are clean, you have no ill-motive and you want to communicate with an accused person before the court, you know his lawyer so you go through his lawyer. You don’t go calling the accused person, meeting him under the cover of darkness, planning all manner of things that I am restraining myself not to put them out ahead of next week’s press conference,” Gyamfi elaborated.
