The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has raised concerns about the recent commissioning of the Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi by President Akufo-Addo.
Despite the elaborate ceremony, Nketia questioned the decision to inaugurate a project that is still under construction.
Nketia emphasized the imprudence of opening a facility that is not yet fully operational. He suggested that it would have been more sensible for President Akufo-Addo to wait until the airport was completed before declaring it open to the public. In a video posted by Nana Yaa Brefo, host of Yen Nsempa Morning show on Onua FM, Nketia likened the situation to “making fufu without soup and asking us to eat.”
Expressing his disbelief at the premature commissioning, Nketia noted the presence of bulldozers at the site and questioned the legitimacy of the ceremony. He insinuated that the move was driven by a political agenda rather than the practical needs of the people.
The Agyemang Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi was officially opened on May 10, 2024. The airport features meticulously arranged interior spaces and glass staircase walls for a visually appealing ambiance. At the entrance, visitors are greeted by the sign “Nante Yie,” symbolizing “safe journey.”
