Ashanti Regional NDC accuses police of bias

The Ghana Police Service has been accused of bias by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leadership in the Ashanti Region, specifically with regard to the execution of legislation pertaining to NDC members.

The party has acknowledged receiving a police statement and intends to go to police headquarters on Tuesday with the Manhyia South Constituency Organizer in order to conduct an inquiry.

Police in the Ashanti Region have proclaimed Mustapha Alhassan wanted after he was seen on camera threatening election violence.

The New Patriotic Party members who have made similar remarks in public endorsing violence should also be investigated, the NDC has demanded, voicing its displeasure with the police’s handling of the case.

The NDC’s Ashanti Regional Secretary, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has said that the organization is dedicated to safeguarding the ballot in the 2024 elections.

He has asked the police to continue operating fairly in these situations.

“We saw a notice from the police that one of our officers is declared wanted. In the first place, why would you declare an officer, an identifiable person, wanted? It just tells you that they are out there to play mischief. Because you know that he is an organizer of the party, so the right thing must be done. You have to go to the regional leadership for us to produce him.”

“Because we are not fighting in the region and we are in a good working relationship. So don’t jump to social media and declare officers wanted when you have not made any frantic efforts in getting the party to produce the party,” he stated.
