Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has successfully mediated the dispute between chiefs at Kenyasi No. 2 in the Ahafo Region and Newmont Gold Mining Company over the resettlement of residents in Tutuka.
During a meeting in Kenyasi No. 2 with the chiefs and residents of Tutuka, the Akyeamehene of Kenyasi No. 2, Nana Asokwah, revealed that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has instructed the chiefs to allow Newmont to relocate those affected by their activities on both Kenyasi No. 2 and Kenyasi No. 1 lands.
Although Tutuka falls under Kenyasi No. 2, the Asantehene has granted permission for Newmont to equally resettle the affected residents on the lands of both Kenyasi No. 2 and Kenyasi No. 1 to foster development in both communities.
The Akyeamehene of Kenyasi No. 2 urged the residents of Tutuka to adhere to the directives of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who serves as the custodian of their lands, for their own advantage.
This resolution showcases the importance of peaceful conflict resolution and collaboration between stakeholders for the betterment of all involved parties and the communities at large.
