Asantehene Destools Queen Mother of Offinso Over Gross Insubordination

The Queen Mother of the Offinso Traditional Area, Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko, has been overthrown by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, for egregious disobedience to the kingdom.

Her destoolment was announced on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the first Asanteman Traditional Council meeting of the year.

She was destooled as a result of her persistent refusal to appear before Otumfuo, despite several summonses for various offenses.

The newly enstooled chief of Offinso, Nana Dwamena Akenteng II, was about to take an oath of allegiance before the Asanteman Council when the Asantehene admonished him to find a new queen mother to support his reign and rulership.

“I deliver the town solely into your hands.” You have no Queen Mother. Find a new queen mother to help you carry out your mandate once you’ve settled down. “We need a queen mother who will be here when we need her,” Otumfuo said with a smile.

Nana Wiafe Akenten III died on October 2, 2021, at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after a brief illness, leaving the throne vacant.

The row erupted after the Queen’s mother failed to name a qualified royal from the Offinso Royal Family to fill the throne for the third time.

Dr. Desmond Kofi Koduah Sarpong, former Board Chairman of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, was nominated by Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko and other kingmakers to fill the position.

The other faction of kingmakers, on the other hand, objected vehemently, claiming that the nominee was not from a royal family. As a result, the Asante Traditional Council established a committee to look into the allegation.

Dr. K.K Sarpong, who was appointed to the throne by the Queen Mother, was determined by the Asantehene and the Committee to be unrelated to the Ahyirem Royal Family.

When it was discovered that the woman from whom he claimed descent had never had a child, he was disqualified, causing friction between the Queen’s mother and some of Offinso’s youth.
