Asante Kotoko emerged victorious in the inaugural Democracy Cup clash against Hearts of Oak on Wednesday, July 17th.
The Porcupine Warriors secured a 2-1 win at the Accra Sports Stadium, extending their dominance over their rivals.
The opening goal came from Justice Blay of Kotoko, who calmly converted a penalty after 30 minutes of play. Despite creating more chances in the first half, Kotoko had to settle for a one-goal lead going into the break.
Hearts of Oak leveled the score early in the second half through Asamoah Boateng, much to the delight of their supporters. However, Amidu restored Kotoko’s lead towards the end of the game, securing a 2-1 victory for the Kumasi-based team.
With this win, Kotoko secured their third victory of the 2023/24 season over Hearts of Oak and earned the opportunity to face DC United in a friendly match later in the year.
