Asamoah Gyan open to vice presidential role

Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has expressed his interest in potentially becoming the running mate to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia if the opportunity presents itself. In an interview on Onua TV, Gyan mentioned that he would find it difficult to turn down such an “honour” if it were offered to him, although he noted that the speculation around this possibility was only a rumour.

While Gyan is dedicated to using his experience and expertise to contribute to the progress of sports in Ghana, he made it clear that there has been no formal offer extended to him to partner with Dr. Bawumia. Gyan also addressed the longstanding rumours about him entering politics, stating that these offers have been on the table for about a decade, even during his playing days.

Currently serving as the chairman of the Sports Sub-Committee of Dr. Bawumia’s manifesto committee, Gyan is set to play a crucial role in developing strategic sports policies for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leading up to the December 7 elections. Additionally, Gyan has launched the All Regional Games, a new multi-sport competition designed to discover and nurture sports talents nationwide.

The regional tour for the All Regional Games is scheduled to kick off on Tuesday, April 16, and will continue until next month in preparation for the national championships. This initiative aligns with Gyan’s dedication to promoting sports development in Ghana and supporting the growth of young athletes across the country.
