Asamoah Gyan, the former Ghana captain, has shared his thoughts on Andre Ayew being dropped from the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Gyan admitted that he would not be happy if he were in Ayew’s shoes, emphasizing the difficulty of accepting such a decision, especially considering Ayew’s impressive form for Le Havre.
Ayew, who was left out of Ghana’s 26-man roster for the matches against Mali and Central African Republic, expressed his disagreement with the decision while coach Otto Addo explained the rationale behind the selection. Gyan acknowledged Ayew’s sentiments, describing his reaction as ‘normal’ and stating that he, too, would feel upset in a similar situation. However, he emphasized the importance of supporting the coach’s decision and recognizing Ayew’s status as a legend in Ghanaian football.
The Black Stars are set to face Mali in Bamako on June 6 before playing the Central African Republic in Kumasi. Despite the absence of Ayew, Gyan encouraged fans to rally behind the team and show their support as they aim to secure victory in the upcoming qualifiers.
