One of Ghana’s greatest footballers, Asamoah Gyan, has made a bold claim regarding his removal as captain of the Black Stars. The former national team captain, who holds the record for the most goals scored for Ghana, believes that the decision was not solely made by coach Kwesi Appiah.
In a recent interview with Atinka TV, Gyan expressed his belief that someone else influenced Appiah to strip him of the captain’s armband. The striker, who has represented Ghana in numerous international competitions including three FIFA World Cups and seven Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, described the decision as one of the coach’s biggest mistakes.
Gyan, who is also the top African goalscorer in World Cup history, had a remarkable career playing for various clubs, most notably UAE side Al Ain FC. He made a brief return to the Ghana Premier League with Legon Cities before announcing his retirement from professional football.
Despite the controversy surrounding his removal as captain, Gyan remains a legendary figure in Ghanaian football history. His exceptional goal-scoring record and unwavering dedication to the Black Stars have left an indelible mark on the sport in the country.
