Burns was born in Miami, Florida to parents Artie Tyrone Burns and Dana Smith.
His father was arrested in South Carolina on October 24, 2006, for cocaine trafficking and sentenced to 25 years in prison. His father is scheduled to be released on May 24, 2027. In October 2015, his mother died of a heart attack at the age of 44.
The University of Miami’s digital department donated $40,000 for his mother’s medical costs through a GoFundMe site.

Burns and his partner Ella have two boys, A.J. and Saint Cairo.
In 2017, he proposed to Ella aboard a yacht in Miami, however, the couple never married after the engagement.

Burns, a Miami native, went to Miami Northwestern High School, where he played defensive back with former Steelers wide receiver Eli Rogers, Dolphins quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, and Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper.
In 2011 and 2012, USA Today named him to the All-USA high school track and field team.
