Bruno Cheyrou, the manager of Lyon, has steadfastly refused to rule out selling Lucas Paqueta to Arsenal. The 24-year-old Brazilian attacking midfielder has recently been mentioned frequently in connection with Arsenal.
Newcastle is also rumored to be interested in him after he led Lyon in scoring with ten goals and seven assists in all competitions in the previous campaign.
But amid rumors that the Ligue 1 club has lowered their asking price to about £33.5million, Arsenal now seems to be the front-runner to sign the attacking midfielder to the Premier League.
As he revealed their strategy for the last month of the transfer window, Lyon’s head of recruitment Cheyrou has added more fuel to the fire regarding a move for Paqueta to the Emirates.
We need to scale back the squad, he said. In terms of departures, we will analyze offers on an individual basis while taking the economics into account.
This has ultimately given the Gunners the green light to make the crucial move prior to the start of the season.
