Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the MP for Ellembelle, has strongly criticized the Akufo-Addo-led government’s decision to rename the Ameri Power Plants.
The Volta River Authority recently announced the commissioning of the Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant (K1TPP) in the Ashanti Region.
Buah condemned the government’s move to rebrand the Ameri Power Plants as the Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plants, calling it “deceptive and shameful.” In a statement issued on Sunday, April 14, the MP argued that this decision is an attempt to hide the government’s failures in the energy sector.
He accused the government of distorting historical facts and misleading the public about the origins of crucial infrastructure. Buah expressed that the renaming of the Ameri Power Plants is not just a cosmetic change but a deliberate effort to deceive the people.
During the tenure of John Dramani Mahama, the Ameri power plants were strategically deployed to address the power crisis in the country. However, the current government has attempted to take credit for these initiatives by renaming the plants. Buah highlighted the efforts made by the previous administration and criticized the lack of integrity in the current government’s actions.
The Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration’s decision to rename projects initiated by their predecessors reflects a lack of innovation and leadership in the energy sector. While trying to create a facade of progress, the government has failed to address the broader challenges facing the energy sector.
