On November 15, 1993, Arik Armstead, a defensive end for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League, was born.

The San Francisco 49ers selected Armstead in the first round (17th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft. In 2015, he was selected as the fifth defensive end.

Armstead was unable to attend training camp and other planned team functions until Oregon’s academic year had concluded due to the NFL regulation that prohibits rookies from joining teams before their year is technically over. He had competition for the starting defensive end position from Quinton Dial, Darnell Dockett, Glenn Dorsey, and Tank Carradine when he came due to Justin Smith’s retirement from the team.

In the season-opening 20-3 victory over the Minnesota Vikings, Armstead made his NFL debut. Armstead made one tackle for loss during the course of the contest. During a 47-7 road defeat to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3 of the season, Armstead made his first NFL sack of quarterback Carson Palmer for a four-yard loss. He recorded a season-high six combined tackles in Week 11’s 29-13 defeat at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks. Armstead had a lone tackle in a 19-16 overtime victory over the St. Louis Rams in Week 17 to earn his first NFL start.
