Shannon Leto, an American musician born on March 9, 1970, is best known as the drummer for the rock group Thirty Seconds to Mars.
Together with his younger brother Jared, he co-founded the band in Los Angeles, California, in 1998. He is 52 years old.
30 Seconds to Mars, their debut album, was released in 2002 with generally favorable reviews but relatively little commercial success. With the publication of their second album A Beautiful Lie (2005), the band attained global fame.
Their subsequent albums, This Is War (2009) and Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams (2013), were also well-received by critics and buyers. The band has sold more than 15 million albums globally as of September 2014.
Throughout his career, Leto has worked on a number of side projects, including a partnership with Antoine Becks, a recording with the flimsy supergroup The Wondergirls, and sporadic appearances with Street Drum Corps.
