David Crosby, a singer-songwriter-guitarist who was a founding member of the Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash (later Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young), two hugely successful and influential 1960s rock bands, has passed away, according to his representative. Age-wise, he was 81. No cause of death has been made public.
Those who followed his extremely active Twitter account, where he had continued to tweet as recently as Wednesday, were shocked to learn of his passing. The day before he passed away, Crosby sent out one of his final tweets, which included the amusing line, “I heard the location is overrated… overcast.”
Graham Nash, Crosby’s former CSNY bandmate who had grown distant from him after their group disbanded, paid tribute to the singer on social media.
What caused the rift between Graham Nash and David Crosby?
The release of Graham Nash’s book, “Wild Tales: A Rock & Roll Life,” in 2013 appears to have been one of the main reasons why David Crosby and Graham Nash fought in their later years. Crosby stated to The San Diego Union-Tribune in 2016 that Graham’s book was “full of falsehoods and chock-full of lies.”
“It’s too late to make any changes, but here it is, he remarked as he handed me (an advance copy). I was quite angry about that. It’s a book full of nonsense that is incredibly self-serving and shallow. Chock-full.”
Since then, the two have engaged in bitter arguments, mostly through the media. Nash stated in an interview with the Union-Tribune from last year: “Crosby, Stills & Nash would never play another note together. I just don’t like Crosby. With him, I can’t compose music. That’s it.
