Walker and Die Hard Clarence Gilyard, a former Texas Ranger, has passed away. The 66-year-old may be most known for playing the partner and best friend of the title character in nearly 200 episodes of the Chuck Norris adventure series on CBS.

Gilyard’s death following a protracted illness was originally reported by The Las Vegas Review-Journal. On any of his social media channels, Norris has not yet posted a comment.

A former football player from Baltimore’s “wrong side of the tracks,” “Jimmy” was a creation of Gilyard. He opposes everything Walker stands for as a Black guy who put his health first (Walker refers to him as a “juice-itarian” during their first meeting), but they quickly discover they are equals working for the same goal.

With a focus on technology, he modernized Cordell Walker’s approach to battling crime, but over time he proved to be just as skilled with a fist as the former Marine.

Are Chuck Norris and Clarence Gilyard friends?
