Following a boat accident in the vicinity of Miami Marine Stadium on Thursday, Anton Walkes of Major League Soccer’s Charlotte FC team perished.
On Thursday morning, Charlotte FC made the death of Walkes public. He was 25. The unfortunate death of Anton Walkes this morning has left us in great sorrow.
Walkes was reportedly in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale region with Charlotte FC during the team’s 12-day training camp in Fort Lauderdale to begin the 2023 preseason, according to the Charlotte Observer.
The Lewisham, England, native signed his first contract with English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur when he was 16 years old. In 2017, Walkes was loaned to Atlanta United of the MLS and League One’s Portsmouth of England after making one appearance with Spurs. I spent two seasons with Atlanta United after spending two seasons in Portsmouth.
Even though he started 64 of a possible 70 games while playing for Atlanta United between 2017 and 2020–2021, Walkes was left available for Charlotte to pick in the 2021 expansion draft. Walkes had 23 appearances last season, starting 21 of them.

Anton Walkes never got married. He did, however, have a child with his girlfriend, Alexis Walkes. Much is unknown about his daughter, but she was occasionally seen at the stadium cheering on her adored father.
