English professional footballer Anton Charles Walkes was a defender and midfielder. On February 8, 1997, he was born, and on January 19, 2023, he passed away.
Walkes signed with Major League Soccer club Atlanta United on January 26, 2017, ahead of the club’s inaugural season.
Walkes made his Atlanta United debut in the first game of the season, coming on as a late substitute but scoring an own goal shortly after in a 2-1 loss to the New York Red Bulls. Despite his own injury concerns and an initial stint on the substitute bench, Walkes quickly regained his first-team spot for the side, establishing himself in the right-back position. He then scored his first goal for the club on July 5, 2017, in a 4-2 win over the San Jose Earthquakes.
His loan with Atlanta United was extended until the end of the season on August 1, 2017. He maintained his position for the remainder of the season. Walkes then scored his second goal for the club in a 7-0 win over the New England Revolution on September 14, 2017.
Walkes returned to his parent club at the end of the 2017 season after making 20 appearances and scoring twice in all competitions. When asked about his loan spell at Atlanta United, he said it helped him push for first-team football.
