Anita Baker is an American singer-songwriter who was born on January 26, 1958. She is one of the most well-known singers of heartfelt ballads, and she is particularly well-known for her work during the 1980s calm storm heyday. Beginning her career in the funk group Chapter 8 in the late 1970s, Baker issued The Songstress, her debut solo album, in 1983. Her mother, a young adolescent, gave her up for adoption to Mary and Grandville Lewis, a Detroit couple. Later, Lois and Walter Landry, her aunt and uncle, adopted her.
In Detroit, Baker initially started singing with the gospel choir at her church, where she discovered her love and ability for music. Her singing career will later be influenced by the gospel sound. Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn, two jazz singers, are among Baker’s other musical influences.
